Think of those who have been in a position to lead you. Maybe they were a teacher, a coach, or a boss. Did you follow their lead? Did you learn from them? Did you develop a sense of loyalty toward them?
If so, it is probably because they led in such as a way that you felt that they cared for you. That type of leadership makes us feel as if they have our best interest at heart. We know that they are authentic and will give us honest feedback in such a way that we will be able to hear it and learn from it.
These leaders want the absolute best for us and work hard to establish relationships with those they are leading. The strength and quality of those relationships will determine if we will follow.
Today, I encourage you to reflect on your sphere of influence.
Who is it that you are in a position to lead?
Perhaps it is your students, or your team, or your employees, or even your family.
Regardless of who it is, consider that how you treat them will determine if they will follow. How you lead makes all the difference!
