Have you ever hit a bump in the road while driving? Perhaps you didn’t notice the signs saying “Slow down” or “Bump” or “Caution”. What happens then? Typically, we hit the bump going full speed and our car launches and we go flying. It doesn’t feel good.
Or maybe you know a bump is coming and pay attention to the signs, but don’t want to deal with the bump. Do you decide to take a detour around the bump? Certainly that will get you past the bump, but by doing so, you don’t learn how to slow down and navigate over the bump.
There will always be bumps in the road of life. With some of them, there will be signs to slow down and take caution yet we may ignore them or not notice the signs and go flying into a situation or make a decision that has us reeling on the other side.
Or we may know a bump is coming in our life, and choose to ignore it and then take a detour living in denial. While this decision might work in the short term, by taking a detour around a problem, we will never learn how to deal with challenges in our lives that will surely continue to come.
So, instead of crashing and burning by ignoring the signs that a bump is coming, instead of avoiding dealing with challenges, take the time to slow down and learn to navigate over the bump. It may take longer than you would like. It may not be easy. But, in the long run, you will learn how to navigate over bumps and will be more prepared when the next bump in the road of life comes your way.
