True story. It happened two days ago.
I was anxiously awaiting a delivery. The gift I had ordered for my husband was scheduled to be delivered that day. You know that feeling of anticipation and excitement when you are going to surprise someone with a gift? Well, that’s what I felt!
I heard the truck rumbling up my long driveway. I looked out the window and saw him coming. I ran outside to wait for him. And then he stepped out of the truck.
And that’s when he said it. “I HATE SATURDAYS!!!!”
I thought, “WHAT????? “How can anyone HATE Saturdays?
It was an absolutely beautiful day! The sun was shining. The temperatures were mild. Birds were singing. The snow on the mountains surrounding our valley was stunning. How could anyone HATE a day like this?
As he reached into the back of his delivery truck to retrieve my package, he continued to whine and complain about how he had to drive “way out here” to bring me my package. And then about how “they” have him going all over the place to deliver packages and how he HATES it!
Wait…what???? Isn’t that your job? Aren’t you thankful that you have a job? Aren’t you thankful that we live in a place as beautiful as this? Aren’t you thankful that you get to bring joy into people’s lives with your delivery? I stood there stunned.
He handed me the package with a frown on his face, never looked me in the eye, and clearly couldn’t have cared less about our encounter. He then drove off leaving a trail of dust and a lasting impression in his wake.
The entire episode only took about 2 minutes from the moment he opened his truck door to the moment he sped off. But the impression he left on me was one I will not soon forget.
So today, my friends, I want to encourage you to be aware of the impression that you may be leaving on others regardless of what kind of package you are delivering to them.
It might be a package, a service, or a product. Or it might be something as simple as as eye contact and a sweet hello. But regardless of what you are delivering, do it with a smile! It makes all the difference.
You will be glad you did!
