Ok…I’ll admit it. I like to talk. I like people. I like learning about people and what makes them tick. I like telling stories. I like teaching and helping people learn new things.
But sometimes, I like to be quiet. Not only do I like to be quiet, I NEED to be quiet. And so do you….sometimes.
Because here’s the thing. If we are always talking, we are never listening! You see, we can’t do both simultaneously. We are either talking or listening.
Sometimes, when we stop talking, it makes us uncomfortable. If we are around people, we may feel compelled to just say anything to break the silence.
But, if we do, we then miss an opportunity……to just observe, to just listen, to just discern, and ultimately, to learn.
You see, there is much to learn through silence. There is much to learn by simply observing. There is much to learn by listening to others.
It is in those moments, that we may discern something and learn something that, otherwise, we would miss.
And one more thing……sometimes we need to be quiet and still our minds when we are alone with ourselves. If our minds are racing and our thoughts are focused only on ourselves, our issues, plans, and our problems, it is impossible to listen, to discern, and to learn that which may be revealed to us in silence.
So today, my friends, I encourage you to find a time to be quiet….to just observe, to just listen, to just discern, and you may be surprised at what you will learn.
You will be glad you did!
